China and Japan should enhance mutual trust and strengthen cooperation to inject more stability and certainty into the world amid turbulence in the international landscape and emerging global challenges, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Friday when meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

The meeting took place in Tokyo, where Wang will attend a trilateral meeting with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts, and then hold a high-level economic dialogue between China and Japan on Saturday.

The Japanese prime minister expressed his willingness to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China in order to promote the development of bilateral ties and bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Wang noted that China and Japan have restarted the process of improving bilateral relations since Ishiba took office last October.

Noting that China and Japan are both countries with important influence, Wang said that the two neighbors share a common mission to work together to usher in a better future for Asia.

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese people's war of resistance against Japanese aggression.

At this important juncture, Wang said he hopes Japan will make wise choices with a responsible attitude toward history, to its people and the future, and send the right signals to the world.
