Shoes worn by Elvis Presley given $45,000 price tag by auctioneer

A pair of shoes worn by Elvis Presley, often referred to as "the King of Rock'n'Roll", are to go on sale in England next week with a price of around $45,000.

So rare is the pair of white ankle-length boots worn by Elvis, auctioneer Andrew Aldridge is predicting a global contest involving bidders from every continent.

Presley wore the shoes in one of his memorable performances when he sang "If I Can Dream", the song that that capped his television special aired by America's NBC in 1968.

Aldridge, who runs a family auction business in Devizes, Wiltshire described Elvis Presley, who died in 1977 aged 42, as one of the most iconic figures in music history. The shoes are due to go under the hammer on Nov 14.

"It is ironic that the very week that the boots put up for auction, Elvis's album 'If I Can Dream' is topping the British album charts," Aldridge said.

According to Aldridge, the boots are sold with an Elvis Presley Museum certificate of authenticity hand signed by Jimmy Velvet, Elvis' friend of 22 years who was the founder and president of the world famous Elvis Presley Museum.
