A glimpse into Indian dance at Silk Road Arts Festival

A female dancer performs a Ghatam dance at the opening performance of the Music and Dance Show of Thindu India in Xi'an, Sept 7. The ghatam was an Indian pot used in ancient times. Ghatam dance derives from the Indian Rajasthan women's posture when walking in the desert while carrying a ghatam on top of their heads. It is a folk dance combined with some acrobatics. The opening performance of the second Silk Road International Arts Festival - Music and Dance Show of Thindu India - drew enthusiastic applause on Sept 7 and Sept 8 at the Grand Theatre of Renmin Square in Xi'an, capital of Northwest China's Shaanxi province.

Directed by a top Chinese Indian music and dance director team, the show took Indian Bollywood music and dance with a Chinese flavor as the main line, and combined that with Indian classical and folk dance while narrating a series of Indian legends and stories.
