Jiading develops international language village

( chinadaily.com.cn ) 2017-05-23

Jiading officially launched an international language village project on May 16 with the Shanghai district aiming to satisfy the urgent need for training talented translators, tourism workers, and trade professionals capable of aiding the country's wide range of Belt and Road Initiative ventures.

The project is a joint effort between Jiading and Crazy English, a famous language education company in China.

Jiading authorities said that the cooperation with Crazy English strives to promote cross-cultural exchange and that they will also provide an online education exchange and interaction platform.

A leader at Crazy English explained that the company sees Jiading as a district with a host of advantages in areas such as talent and technology and believes the Shanghai region has played a significant role in the city's technological and innovation development.

The company will build a big data multi-lingual campus in Jiading and will help train a large number of teachers proficient in foreign languages to work in conjunction with Belt and Road Initiative projects to teach Chinese and promote Chinese culture throughout the world.

The project will also work with financial capital firms such as Jiading's Nanxiang Venture Capital to establish a Belt and Road Initiative cross-cultural education entrepreneurship fund of 500 million yuan ($72.6 million). The fund is aimed at giving financial support to startups focusing on foreign language education.
